How to Pair Your Signia Hearing Aids β 6 Steps
Follow these steps in order. The most important rule: always activate pairing mode first, then go to your phone settings β not the other way around.
Charge or Replace Batteries
Ensure your Signia hearing aids are fully charged or have fresh batteries. Low battery voltage is responsible for approximately 20% of all pairing failures. For rechargeable aids, a full charge takes 3β4 hours and lasts ~24 hours.
iPhone & AndroidEnable Bluetooth on Your Phone
Open Settings β Bluetooth and toggle it ON. Make sure Airplane Mode is OFF. Also check that the Signia app (if already installed) has Bluetooth permission granted in Settings β Privacy β Bluetooth.
iPhone & AndroidActivate the 3-Minute Pairing Window
This is the most critical step. Battery aids: Open the battery door for 5 seconds, then close it firmly. Rechargeable aids: Place both aids in the charger, wait 5 seconds, then remove them. You'll hear a startup melody confirming pairing mode is active. You now have 3 minutes to complete the pairing on your phone.
The pairing window closes automatically. If you run out of time, simply repeat Step 3. The #1 cause of pairing failure (45% of cases) is the window expiring before the phone finds the device.
iPhone: Settings β Accessibility β Hearing Devices
Open Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap Accessibility. Scroll to the "Hearing" section and tap Hearing Devices. Your Signia hearing aids should appear automatically. Tap the device name β you'll see two pairing request dialogs (one for each ear). Tap Pair on both.
Android: Settings β Connected Devices β Pair New Device
Open Settings on your Android phone. Tap Connected Devices (or "Connections" on Samsung). Tap Pair New Device. Your Signia hearing aids will appear in the list β tap the device name to pair. Android 10+ also supports the ASHA protocol (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids) for significantly lower audio latency.
Download & Set Up the Signia App
Download the Signia App (free) from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app β your paired Signia hearing aids will be detected automatically. Follow the in-app setup wizard to configure your programs, volume preferences, and tinnitus settings. Enable Location Permission if prompted β it's required for the ASHA Bluetooth protocol on Android.
Your Signia hearing aids should now stream audio, show battery level, and respond to volume changes from the app. If not, proceed to the troubleshooting section below.
iPhone vs. Android β Key Differences
The pairing path differs by platform. Both work well with Signia hearing aids, but iPhone's MFi standard offers a deeper, more stable integration.
iPhone (MFi Protocol)
- iPhone 5s or newer
- iOS 14.0 or higher required
- Pairs via Settings β Accessibility β Hearing Devices
- MFi protocol: ultra-stable, lower power use
- Dual-dialog pairing (one prompt per ear)
- Works with Siri for hands-free volume control
- No Signia app required for basic control
iPhone's MFi (Made for iPhone) standard is purpose-built for hearing aids. Most audiologists recommend iPhone for the most seamless Signia experience.
Android (ASHA Protocol)
- Android 10 or higher required
- Pairs via Settings β Connected Devices β Pair New Device
- ASHA: lower audio latency for streaming
- Requires Location Permission for ASHA
- Signia app required for full feature access
- Compatible with Google Assistant voice commands
- Check Signia's compatibility list by phone model
Android's ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids) protocol provides lower audio latency than MFi, making it better for real-time audio streaming on supported devices.
Bluetooth Signal Strength vs. Distance
Keep your phone within 3 meters for best streaming quality. Signal drops sharply through walls and metal objects.

95% of Bluetooth pairing problems fall into 4 categories. Find your issue below.
Top Causes of Pairing Failures
Based on audiologist service records β Hearing Benefit Services
Fix: Simply restart the pairing window by repeating Step 3.
- Battery aids: Open battery door 5 sec, then close
- Rechargeable aids: Put in charger 5 sec, then remove
- Immediately go to Settings on your phone β don't wait
- Work quickly β you have exactly 3 minutes
Fix: Forget the device from the old phone first, then re-pair on the new one.
- On old phone: Settings β Bluetooth β tap β next to hearing aids
- Tap "Forget This Device" (iPhone) or "Unpair" (Android)
- Restart hearing aids to clear their memory
- Now pair fresh on the new phone
Fix: Replace batteries or fully charge before attempting to pair.
- For disposable batteries: use size 312 (brown) or 13 (orange)
- Use fresh brand-name batteries β cheap batteries drain faster
- Rechargeable: charge for at least 30 minutes before pairing
- After charging, use the charger-restart method in Step 3
Fix: Grant all required permissions to the Signia app.
- iPhone: Settings β Signia App β Enable Bluetooth
- iPhone: Also enable Notifications and Local Network if prompted

If nothing works: (1) Forget the aids in Bluetooth settings. (2) Delete and reinstall the Signia app. (3) Restart your phone completely. (4) Restart the hearing aids. (5) Start the full pairing process from Step 1. This resolves ~98% of stubborn connection issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers from our licensed audiologists to the most common Bluetooth hearing aid questions.
The most common causes are: (1) the pairing window has expired β restart the aids to reopen it; (2) the aids are already paired to another device; (3) Bluetooth permissions are denied for the Signia app; (4) low battery. Try forgetting the device in Bluetooth settings and re-pairing from scratch.
For battery-powered aids: open the battery door for 5 seconds, then close it. For rechargeable aids: place them in the charger, wait 5 seconds, then remove them. This activates a 3-minute pairing window indicated by a startup melody.
No β Bluetooth hearing aids can typically only be actively connected to one device at a time. However, some premium Signia hearing aids support multipoint connection, allowing passive pairing to multiple devices with quick manual switching between them.
The Signia App (available free on iOS and Android) provides remote control of your hearing aid volume and programs, battery level monitoring, tinnitus therapy management, remote fine-tuning by your audiologist, and a sound equalizer for personalized adjustments.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) hearing aids have an effective range of approximately 10 meters (33 feet) in open space. Walls, metal objects, and other wireless devices reduce this range. For best streaming quality, keep your phone within 3 meters.
No β your Signia hearing aids work perfectly without the app. However, the app unlocks advanced features: remote program switching, precise volume control, battery notifications, tinnitus sound therapy, and remote audiologist adjustments without an office visit.
Signia MFi (Made for iPhone) hearing aids work with iPhone 5s or newer running iOS 14 or higher. Android ASHA compatibility requires Android 10 or higher on supported devices. Not all Android phones support ASHA β check Signia's compatibility list on their website for your specific phone model.
Common fixes: (1) Check battery level β low battery causes dropouts; (2) Disable Bluetooth on nearby unused devices to reduce interference; (3) Reset network settings on iPhone; (4) Ensure the Signia app has full Bluetooth and notification permissions; (5) Update both the app and your phone's OS to the latest version.
