How to Change the Receiver on Your RIC Hearing Aid
The receiver is the small speaker at the end of the thin wire — a different part than the dome tip. Watch the quick video below for a full walkthrough.
Occasionally your Hearing Care Professional may recommend replacing the receiver itself, not just the dome tip on the end of it — for example if it stops producing clear sound, is damaged, or has simply reached the end of its useful life. This short video walks through the process.

Step by Step
This follows the same technique shown in the video above. Watch it alongside these steps the first time through.
Turn your hearing aid off and take it out of your ear before you begin.
Hold the body of the hearing aid firmly in one hand — not the thin wire.
Find where the receiver's connector plugs into the bottom of the hearing aid body.
Grip the receiver itself or the wire close to it, then pull straight out to disconnect the old receiver from the hearing aid body.
Line up the new receiver's connector with the socket on the hearing aid body, matching the same orientation as the old one.
Push it in firmly until it clicks or snaps securely into place.
Give it a gentle tug to confirm it's fully seated and won't come loose.
Reattach the dome or ear piece if you removed it, then turn the hearing aid on and confirm you're hearing clearly.
Receivers are matched to your technology and power level
Receivers aren't one-size-fits-all — each one is built for a specific power level (matched to your degree of hearing loss) and must be compatible with your hearing aid's technology. Using the wrong receiver can affect sound quality or may not fit correctly at all.
Always confirm the exact replacement receiver with your Hearing Care Professional before ordering or swapping one in.

Before you start
- Make sure you have the correct replacement receiver for your hearing aid model and power level — your Hearing Care Professional can confirm this.
- Work over a clean, flat, well-lit surface in case a small part is dropped.
- Watch the full video once before starting, so each step is familiar.
⚠ A few things to keep in mind
- During everyday wear, avoid pulling on the thin receiver cable when putting your hearing aid on or taking it off — grip the firm end pieces instead. The wire is delicate, and repeated strain on it is one of the most common causes of hearing aid repairs.
- Always keep an ear piece (dome) fully and securely attached to the receiver before inserting it in your ear.
